Our Mission
The Augustinian Canons of Our Lady of Walsingham (CLW) is a dispersed ecumenical community united through shared Communion, guided by the Rule of St. Augustine and the invocation of the Blessed Mother. The Brothers and Sisters of the order seek to proclaim the Gospel of our Lord, Jesus Christ, as taught within the churches of our members and to inhabit the virtues of unity, truth, and charity in service to the Lord and our local communities.
Our Charism and Mission is guided by the Vita Canonica; a commitment to a life that uniquely blends the active ministry of a cleric with the discipline of a monastic rule. We embody the Vita Canonica by seeking One Heart and One Soul in God (Anima Una et cor unum in Deum) through synchronized prayer, accountability, and the faithful proclamation of the Divine Mysteries. We, as ordained and lay Brothers and Sisters, commit ourselves to the Rule of St. Augustine and active apostolic service within our dispersed contexts, making the holiness of religious life visible in the world for the glory of God and the upbuilding of the Church.
CLW Out in the World
From the Prior General:
This past May, I spent two weeks on my annual solo pilgrimage, returning to Iona and the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham and visiting several holy places in Wales, including St David’s Cathedral and St. Winifred's Well. Over the years, Iona and Walsingham have become true thin places for me; spaces where the sea, the stone, and the quiet hills seem to wear thin, bringing God's presence incredibly close. The journey itself, along with the quiet hours spent in solitude, always restores my soul. It gives me the space I need to listen deeply to God, with creation serving as both my chapel and my companion in prayer.
I carry our Augustinian way of seeing with me on these journeys, seeking a deeper rest for my own restless heart and for our community. In the silence of these holy sites, I find myself drawn back to our call to live "with one mind and heart intent upon God," walking in the footsteps of all those who have prayed there through the centuries. As Prior General, this time of quiet attentiveness grounds me and renews my commitment to interiority, community, and our shared journey of conversion. I hope that the grace of these annual retreats helps all of us grow as a pilgrim people, discovering God’s presence both in the quiet beauty of these sacred spaces and in the everyday life we share together.
